A Survey on School Members’ Awareness of the Supply of Natural Turfgrass in School Playgrounds in Korea

This study was conducted by surveying school members who use natural turfgrass school playgrounds in 17 cities and provinces across the country. The survey contents included the level of awareness of natural turfgrass school playgrounds, the pros and cons of natural turfgrass school playgrounds, the purpose of natural turfgrass use and management status, and improvements to natural turfgrass school playgrounds. As this was a survey of school members who were already using natural turfgrass school playgrounds, there were many very positive evaluations of natural turfgrass school playgrounds, and it was possible to identify in more detail the shortcomings felt by actual users. Improvements included the need for budget support for planting varieties resistant to traffic stress and managing natural turfgrass in order to expand the application of natural turfgrass. Natural turfgrass is difficult to manage and is underused at specific times, so in areas where tracks or damage to traffic stress is concentrated, it is necessary to review some applications of other safety covering materials or conduct additional research on planting design using various natural turfgrass varieties.
