Exotic weeds are considered as one of the major threats for agro-ecosystem and global food security. Hence, herbicides selection and application doses are considered of great importance for sustainable weed management practice and optimum crop production. Since Veronica persica Poir. is one of the dominant exotic weeds in Korean landscape, there is an urgency for its efficient management to protect the Korean agro-ecosystem. Considering this scenario, we have screened a variety of herbicides with different doses to control V. persica Poir. as pre-emergence and post-emergence control. In addition, we have studied the germination characteristics of V. persica Poir in response to light, temperature and sowing depth. Results showed that V. persica Poir germinated well in both light and dark condition and thrived better at 35℃ at 2 cm depth. Approximately, 93% control valuewas achieved in post-emergence control with glufosinate P one-half dose, whereas, 100% control valuewas observed in pre-emergence with the application of alachlor and pendimethalin one-half dose of standard recommended rate. These results suggest that V. persica could be effectively managed with the lower dose of glufosinate P, alachlor and pendimethalin which could be beneficial for environmental safety and quality commercial crop production.
