Abstract
In August 2023, a leaf spot disease was observed on peanut in Cheongju-si, Korea. The leaf spots occurred at the leaf margins, and then the lesion expanded gradually. The diseased leaf areas were light or dark brown and irregular in shape. A fungal isolate was obtained from symptomatic leaf and identified as a Colletotrichum sojae based on morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis of the internal transcribed spacers, glyceraldehyde3-phosphate dehydrogenase, chitin synthase-1, actin, β-tubulin genes. Pathogenicity test were performed on the peanut seedling with conidial suspension (1×106 conidia/mL). Lesions were observed on peanut leaf 5 days after inoculation. The pathogen was re-isolated from the lesions of inoculated leaf. To our knowledge, this is the first report of anthracnose on peanut caused by C. sojae in Korea.
