This study presents a case of developing an AI recycling sorter using a 4Dframe mechatronics kit as part of creating educational content for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Project-based learning activities that address real-life problems not only yield educational benefits but also cultivate creative problem-solving skills. The aim of this research was to develop high-quality educational content for a future-oriented, knowledge-based society by integrating emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and mechatronics into existing content. To achieve this, a learner-driven selection process via design planning was conducted, and an AI recycling sorter incorporating an AI camera, a conveyor system, and image recognition and classification algorithms was implemented using a 4Dframe mechatronics kit.
